North Shields climbs from the Fish Quay up steep banks to the older town around Northumberland Square, where Georgian and Victorian townhouses stand beside newer riverside apartments. Tynemouth, with its priory and village streets, sits on the same NE30 postcode.
The banks are the challenge. Some of the roads down to the quay are too steep or narrow for a Luton, so we choose the van to fit the street rather than the load.
